Atoms capture title

The Cary/Pines Atoms hockey team from Presque Isle played in the Woodstock Minor Hockey Atoms tournament held Jan. 7-10.
Presque Isle beat the DQ Slammers in game one, 4-3, holding a 40-14 shot advantage. Denny Young and Thomas Patenaude scored two goals each for the winners. Austin Bouchard was the game MVP and Sarah Beaulieu earned sportsmanship honors.

Against the Dieppe Capitals, PI pulled out a 6-3 decision, with Patenaude scoring three times, Young adding two and Beaulieu one. Young was the game MVP and Tyler Levesque took the sportsmanship trophy.
PI blanked the Moncton Canadians in the third game of the tourney, 10-1. Young scored a hat trick, while Patenaude and Greyson Sonntag each scored twice and Beaulieu, Devin Ireland and Isaac Madore chipped in with single tallies.
Eric Benson was the game MVP and Gregory Jellison garnered sportsmanship honors.
In the semifinals, Presque Isle downed the Moncton Blackhawks, 9-3, with Patenaude and Young netting four goals each and Alex Brewer also scoring. Patenaude was named MVP and Connor Hebert won the sportsmanship award.
In the championship, Presque Isle made it a perfect 5-0 record in the tourney with a 6-2 victory over the Riverview Warriors. Young scored three goals, Patenaude had two and Madore one for the winners. Ireland was the game MVP, while goalie Heinz Schumacher, who was between the pipes in all five contests, gained the sportsmanship award.
Presque Isle scored a total of 35 goals in the tournament, compared to 11 by their opponents.  PI held a 181-68 shot advantage.
The team is coached by Pierre Patenaude and assisted by Scott Madore, Kevin Schumacher and Tim Belden.
