BRIDGEWATER — One of every 2.6 female deaths in the United States is due to cardiovascular disease. The Aroostook Medical Center is raising awareness of the dangers of heart disease in women by holding The Royal Hearts Ball, sponsored by Acadia Medical Supply, at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center from 6-11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.
Proceeds from the ball will support an expanded telemetry system at A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital in Presque Isle. This new system will allow telemetry staff to monitor a patient’s heart functions accurately from a distance, providing the patient safer care and observation.
Vilma Craig, senior manager of Critical Care Services, described how the system works throughout the hospital, “Although we have a telemetry system, this new one is more advanced and we have more units so that nearly every inpatient will be monitored this way. What this means to patients is that while you’re here and you’re being monitored through this telemetry system, we can watch over you and your heart functions no matter where you are in the hospital. If you need to go to the Imaging Center, Cardiac Rehab, Nuclear Medicine, anywhere, we can monitor your heart functions.”
Ticket sales for this elegant evening are available at Acadia Medical Supply in the Aroostook Centre Mall, Wilder’s Jewelry, any County Physical Therapy location, Pancsofar’s Bridal Shop and at www.tamc.org. Tickets are $30 each and a full dinner is included in the ticket price. Special crimson tickets are also available for $50 each, making the holder eligible for a special set of door-prize drawings valued at more than $1,000.
