Houlton picks up three wins, teams ready for postseason

Teams are finishing out the regular season. Recaps of games played through Jan. 27-Feb. 1 follows.
    Houlton 47, Caribou 42 — It was a close game Monday in Caribou, as the Lady Shires led 12-6 after one and 25-21 at intermission. After three, only four points separated the teams, 34-30. In the final period, Vanessa Sanderson went 5-for-5 from the free-throw line to help Houlton hold on for the win.
Sanderson led the Lady Shires with 18 points, while Martha McPartland scored 11 points and Taylor Bailey added 10.
The Caribou jayvees won, 46-22.
GHCA 46, Van Buren 35 — The GHCA Lady Eagles defeated host Van Buren last Saturday behind Mariah Wiley’s 16 points and Emily Little’s 10.
Bangor Christian 55, Katahdin 45 — At Stacyville, the Patriots opened the game up in the third,37-28, en route to the win.
Olivia McNally led Katahdin with 18 points and Myah Smallwood added 10.
Southern Aroostook 56, East Grand 18 — After taking a 21-0 opening-quarter lead, the Lady Warriors cruised by East Grand.
Olivia Raymond led Southern Aroostook with 14 points, while Evangeline Goodall collected 11 points.
Elisha Farley led East Grand with eight points.
Katahdin 68, Ashland 27 – Last Thursday in Stacyville, the Lady Cougars went out in front 17-6 after the first and led 33-15 at intermission. They spread the game, 47-27 after the third en route to the win.
McNally poured in 37 points for Katahdin, while Brittany Fogarty added 11 points.
Houlton 49, Schenck 35 — Last Thursday in East Millinocket, the game was close through the first half, with Schenck leading 11-10 before Houlton took a 23-19 halftime lead. To start the third period, full-court pressure led to a 13-0 scoring run, as the Lady Shires outscored Schenck, 18-9 for a 41-28 lead en route to the win.
McPartland led Houlton with 17 points, while Sanderson scored 15 and Amanda Fogarty added 12.
GHCA 40, Wisdom 29 — Last Wednesday in St. Agatha, the Lady Eagles built an 18-10 halftime lead and a 30-22 third-period lead on the way to victory.
Wiley scored 17 points for the Lady Eagles, while Little scored seven points.
Southern Aroostook 58, LCS/MSSM 30 — Last Wednesday in Limestone, the Lady Warriors took a 23-9 first-quarter lead and held a 25-13 halftime advantage over the Eagles. After the third, SACS broke the game open for a 40-22 lead.
Liz Goodall scored 20 points, while Jasmine Rockwell added 12 points and Shelby Hartin netted 10 more for Southern Aroostook.
In the jayvee game, Limestone/MSSM pulled out a 34-29 victory.
Hodgdon 78, East Grand 22 — The Lady Hawks picked up a lopsided win over visiting East Grand last Wednesday.
Hodgdon built a 42-10 halftime cushion and extended it to 68-13 after the third for the win.
Hodgdon’s Lacey McQuarrie collected 18 points, while Kim Levesque tossed in 10 points and grabbed six rebounds and Jillian London tallied nine points and nine boards.
Shaunna Beaudoin had 12 points for East Grand.
Houlton 54, Fort Kent 43 — Last Wednesday’s game in Houlton was close through the first half, as Fort Kent led 12-11 to start the game, but at halftime the score was tied 23-all. In the third, the Lady Shires created breathing room, leading 32-28 to hold on for the win.
Sanderson had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Fogarty scored 16 points for the Lady Shires.
