The Aroostook County Branch of the American Red Cross-Pine Tree chapter will be offering CPR, First Aid and AED trainings on Saturday, Feb. 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chan Center at Cary Medical Center, 163 Van Buren Road, Caribou. Participants will learn how to perform CPR and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants. First aid skills include treating a variety of injuries such as burns; wounds; head, neck and back injuries and heat and cold-related emergencies. Also included are ways to manage sudden illnesses, stroke, seizure, bites and poisoning.
Participants will also learn the skills necessary to operate an automated external defibrillator (AED) for adults and children. For every minute that an AED is delayed in a cardiac situation, a person’s chance of survival decreases by 10 percent. For more information or to register, contact Ben Zetterman, Community Programs coordinator at 493-4620, ext. 109, or e-mail him at zettermanb@pinetree.redcross.org.
Seating is limited and all paid registrations must be received in the Caribou Red Cross office no later than Wednesday, Feb. 17.
