Donation supports HRH expansion

A $5,000 donation, to support a fund-raising campaign for Houlton Regional Hospital (HRH), was presented to Elizabeth Dulin, executive director of the Health Services Foundation (HSF) recently.     The Houlton Regional Hospital Auxiliary pledged a $15,000 donation in January 2008 for the foundation’s nuclear medicine fund-raising campaign for the hospital. The $5,000 donation was the second payment toward that pledge.
“The foundation is truly grateful for all the assistance given over the years by the auxiliary for without their generous help we would not have been quite as successful overall in our fund-raising efforts. In order to stay true to the Foundation’s mission of ‘Supporting Excellence in Healthcare’ we rely solely on donor generosity and when it comes to the auxiliary, that generosity has been truly significant,” said Dulin.
Volunteers manage the gift shop located in the hospital lobby. It is the prime source of income for the auxiliary. Other fund-raisers such as the May Fudge Sale and the Christmas Tree of Love help to add to the auxiliary’s income.
“All good works are done by those who understand and care about the world we live in. And across the nation, local auxiliaries are doing their very best to support the causes close to their hearts. We should all be very thankful that these organizations exist. As Margaret Meade said: ‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.’ For indeed, in our far northern community here, this small group of dedicated individuals are, indeed, changing our little corner of the world,” said Dulin.
