The Citizens Police Academy begins Feb. 24 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. for 10 weeks. It is open to people from the greater Houlton area that are 18 or older, do not have a felony conviction or multiple misdemeanor violations. Traffic infraction convictions or civil violations will not exclude a person.
With permission from a parent or guardian and depending upon seating availability, Houlton and Hodgdon junior/senior high school students, who are seriously contemplating a career in law enforcement, may attend.
Topics to be covered include: evidence processing and crime scene preservation; drug investigations; traffic stops; domestic violence; budgeting; community policing; radar; K-9s; firearms; the hiring process for police and more.
Upon successfully graduating, students are provided with a certificate of completion and a second Citizens Police Academy ball cap and T-shirt.
