The February meeting of the Mars Hill UMW was held in the church vestry on Feb. 8, with nine members present. Hostess Diane Ketchum read a special food blessing before all enjoyed sandwiches brought from home. Hot and cold drinks and chips were provided. The tables were decorated in the valentine motif, with paper tablecloths, napkins, plates and individual favors of valentine candies. A delicious cream layer cake was served by Diane and her assistant, Judy Sawin Stahnke.
After an hour of socializing, President Elaine called the business meeting to order. She led all in the UMW Purpose Pledge and Prayer. Members enjoyed hearing of different acts of kindness done over the past month by various members.
The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted as read. Diane Ketchum read several thank-you notes from those that received monetary gifts as part of the UMW Missions Project.
The present prayer chain list was reviewed and changes made. A new list will be made and distributed. Joan Boone reported on a recent project — the cleaning out of the upstairs Sunday School rooms. Members were pleased with the hard work done and the good results.
Donna Brewer reported that after looking for new chairs for the church vestry, she and her committee had purchased 48 chairs at a very reduced price. They will be delivered soon.
Diane Ketchum, program chairman for the day, spoke of “Pledge and Budget.” She passed out the proposed budget and members reviewed and revised it, before members voted to accept the proposed budget for 2010. Pledges were passed out and members responded with monetary gifts to be presented to the UMW Northern District.
The meeting ended with all repeating the UMW Benediction. Members attending were: Elaine Bailey, Diane Ketchum, Judy Sawin Stahnke, Frances Banks, Janice Footer, Donna Brewer, Joan Boone, Joan Walsh and Clara Hussey.
