    On Feb. 10, the boys preliminary games were played, with the winners advancing to the Eastern Maine Tournament.
    Madawaska 64, Hodgdon 32 — The Hodgdon Hawks hopes of entering the Class C Eastern Maine Tournament were dashed last Wednesday in Madawaska.
    The Hawks end their season with an 8-11 record.
    The Owls held a 12-8 lead to open the game, extending it to 24-14 at halftime. In the third, the Owls outscored Hodgdon 19-7 to break the game open.
    Nicholas Lunn scored 11 points to pace Hodgdon, while Dan McGillicuddy tossed in 10 points.
    GHCA 55, DI-Stonington 49 — The GHCA Eagles boys basketball team is heading to the Class D Eastern Maine Tournament for the first time ever in school history.
    Last Wednesday night, the Eagles had a comfortable 17-9 opening lead, but saw Deer Isle close the scoring gap at intermission, 29-25.
    After the third, the Eagles led 38-31, as Chad Duff hit a fade away to close out the quarter. In the final period, the Eagles’ Duff hit a turn around baseline shot and Zach Straubel hit a 3-pointer to push the lead to 43-31.
    But, the Mariners continued to challenge the Eagles, as Dustin Powers hit a wide-open 3-pointer to bring his team to within four points, 49-45. Free throws were key for the Eagles down the stretch, as Straubel hit two; Wiley added three and Campbell one to seal the win in the last minute of the game.
    Duff led the Eagles with 21 points, while Wiley scored 12 points and Straubel connected for 11 points.
    The Eagles first trip to the tournament matches them up playing top-seeded Schenck of East Millinocket was Monday at the Bangor Auditorium.

NEXT YEAR – The Hodgdon Hawks will be concentrating on next year, as their season came to a close on Feb. 10 against host Madawaska in a preliminary game. Junior Jake Tidd will be among those returning to lead the Hawks, as well as a strong sophomore class.
