Surprise 60th

    The annual tradition of celebrating Valentine’s Day with a meal and festive decorations in Shiretown Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall had a special significance this year as Pastor Jamie Gardner learned he was being surprised last Friday on the eve of his 60th birthday. Several of the 40 church-goers who attended, gave heartfelt and emotional testimonials about his effect on their lives and the church during the seven years he has been pastor. “I didn’t expect this, I’m honored, really. Pastors don’t do it for the notice. But, we need encouragement too.” His wife Rebecca, left, said “he is the same at home as he is at church.” At right is Cindy Milton and in back is Wanda MacIlroy.
