Eight “Northern Star” regional finalists practiced opening and closing numbers on Monday night at the United Way of Aroostook office in preparation for the Saturday, Feb. 28 finale, which begins at 2 p.m. at the Caribou Performing Art Center. Regional winners competing for the first “Northern Star” title include, from left: Alyson Michaud, 16, from Caribou; Stacie Coltart, 39, from Madawaska; Jordan Buckley, 12, from Westfield; Lance Albair, 32, from Woodland; Megan Ouellette, 17, from Clair, N.B; Wyatt Jenkins, 17, from Houlton; Isabelle Pelletier, 12, from St. Jacques, N.B., and Zacharia Harvey, 16, from Houlton. Jason Shaw, 35, from St. Thomas, N.B., is missing from the photos.
Along with the five returning Aroostook Idols, nine Northern Star regional finalists from Aroostook County and New Brunswick will be putting together a high-energy high-talent show that promises to knock your socks off, so you might want to bring an extra pair.
Even though this is the sixth year of the popular United Way of Aroostook County fund-raiser, the level of talent this year has risen to levels only comparable to 2007 when Annie Charles of Limestone was named Aroostook Idol.
“This is really going to be one of those blow-your-socks-off shows,” said Jason Parent.
With competition too close to even speculate as to who could be the first International Northern Star, every vote is going to matter with this caliber of competitors.
This is also speculated to be the last time that all five Aroostook Idols will be returning to perform together, so permanent marker the show on your calendar and purchase your tickets early.
Three male singers, Zacharia Harvey, Wyatt Jenkins, and Jason Shaw, are advancing to the finale from the southern Aroostook contest. Advancing winners from the Central Aroostook show include Jordan Buckley, Alyson Michaud, and Lance Albair. Megan Ouellette, Stacey Coltart, and Isabelle Pelletier will advance to the finale from Northern Aroostook County.
Admission to the finale is $10 and pre-show tickets are available at all Aroostook County Key Bank branches.
Proceeds raised from the show will go directly to the United Way of Aroostook annual fund-raising campaign.
Additional information can be obtained by contacting the United Way of Aroostook at 764-5197.
