CARIBOU – Rogis Keaton, 83, died February 18, 2010 at Bangor. He was born in Caribou August 20, 1926, the son of Alonzo and Edith (Jandreau) Keaton Sr. He was educated in the St. John and Caribou school systems. He served with the US Army during WWII. Rogis was a firefighter for the Caribou Fire Department for 17 years. He was employed at the Caribou Water Co. for 11 years and was also a custodian at the Caribou VFW. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was a life member of the Lister-Knowlton Post #9389 VFW. Rogis founded Boy Scout Troop 184 in 1962 and was a Scout Master for nine years, and was a committee member for a number of years. Rogis was a loving and devoted husband and father to his family. He married Lillian (Pelletier) Keaton on June 17, 1948.
Surviving in addition to his wife of Caribou are three sons and daughters-in-law, Vaughn and Brenda Keaton, David and Vicki Keaton all of Caribou and Ronald and Carol Keaton of Dover, NH; two daughters and sons-in-law, Arlene and Steve Luzzi of Hampden and Donna and Fred Everitt of Fort Fairfield; two brothers, Hubert Keaton and his wife, Marlene of Caribou and Dana Keaton and his wife, Julie of East Hampton, MA; three sisters, Nina Laychak and her husband, Fran of Trumball, CT; Omerine Lacombe and her husband, Lionel of Mattawankeag and Glenice Cote and her husband, Wilford of Caribou; his grandchildren, Ben Keaton of NJ, Kevin Keaton of Caribou, Heather and Chelsea Keaton of Dover, Jay and Desi Luzzi of Presque Isle; Frederick, Nicole and Sonia Everitt of Fort Fairfield and Emily and Katie Keaton of Caribou; 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Alonzo Keaton Jr.
Friends called at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, 6-9 p.m., Sunday, with evening military services being held at 6 p.m. by the officers and members of the VFW. Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Monday, February 22, 2010, at the Parish of The Precious Blood, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with the Fr. Aaron Damboise, associate pastor, officiating in a Mass of Christian Burial. Spring interment will take place in the Old Holy Rosary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish to contribute in memory of Rogis may do so to: the Caribou Friends of Scouting, P.O.
