LIMESTONE — Camping, hiking, fishing, swimming — boys may be boys, but the members of Limestone Troop 193 are taught to behave like responsible young men.

Limestone Troop 193 Boy Scouts found fishing to be the perfect way to spend Feb. 14 to 16 on their trip to Chemquasabamticook Lake. Scouts included, from left, Benjamin Parent and his two pound 21.5-inch cusk, Joshua Chartier with two cusks, and Storm Simon with a 4.5 pound lake trout and a cusk of 22 inches that weighed 2.25 pounds. Chartier also caught a whitefish that weighed 2.25 pounds and was 18 inches long.

The Limestone troop tends to be on the small side, fluctuating between six to twelve scouts at any given time. Scout Master Larry Cote and his family, Assistant Scout Master Elaine Cote, Assistant Scout Master Danial Cote and Assistant Scout Master Ryan Cote, make sure to keep the Scouts plenty busy with activities and obtaining Merit Badges.
Though they keep busy, Larry’s  favorite activity is camping at Camp Roosevelt during the summer.
“[The Scouts] learn so much down there and get to know other boys in the Scouting program,” Larry said. “They come home with four or five Merit Badges and a glow on their faces.”
The scouts get to participate in all the quintessential parts of being a Boy Scout at Camp Roosevelt, covering everything from campfires to silly songs.
Troop 193 Scouts are also actively involved in their community, volunteering their time to recycle the Christmas trees of the town, assist the Limestone Rotary Club with the production and delivery of Christmas Baskets, and as a new community service activity this year, the Scouts will be putting up Bat Boxes in Caswell in an attempt to help control the mosquito population.
In celebration of 100 years of Boy Scouts of America, three of the seven Limestone Boy Scouts will be attending this year’s National Jamboree, including Storm Simon, Nick Whitehead, and Daniel Haley.
