Elish fares well at piano competition
PORTLAND – Paul Elish, a junior at Presque Isle High School, competed March 20 in the Ocy L. Downs Piano Prize.

Begun in 1999, the Ocy L. Downs Piano Prize is a biennial competition open to Maine students in grades 8-12 known for rigorous standards, in memory of a dedicated and distinguished Portland piano teacher whose career spanned more than 70 years. In keeping with her high expectations, participants are required to memorize major works from the Baroque, classical, romantic and modern piano literature.
The competition was held at the Portland Conservatory of Music in Portland.
Elish received honorable mention for his high level of musicianship by the distinguished jurors, pianists Anastasia Antonacos, Mila Filatova and George Lopez.
