PRESQUE ISLE — WEGP 1390 AM, The Talk of the County, has a scheduling change affecting a portion of its programs.
The “Bruce Williams Show” currently running weeknights from 8 to 10 p.m. has been removed from the broadcast schedule due to Mr. Williams’ decision to retire from radio after a 35-year broadcast career, which included an induction into the Radio Hall of Fame.
In place of the Bruce Williams show, WEGP will move the “Dr. Laura Schlesinger Show,” currently running two hours from 8 to 10 a.m., to the 8-10 p.m. time slot formerly occupied by Williams. In place of “Dr. Laura” in the morning, WEGP will extend “America’s Morning News” to its full length of three hours from 6 to 9 a.m. and also extend the Glenn Beck program to its full three hours from 9 a.m. to noon.
Pat Patterson, operations manager at WEGP, commented, “We were sad to see the “Bruce Williams Show” come to an end, but the ‘Dr. Laura Show’ remains one of the most popular at WEGP. And moving her show away from our daytime news-talk-oriented programming to an evening time slot seems like the right thing to do. With news and politics at the top of everybody’s mind right now, updating our daytime schedule to Beck from 9 a.m. to noon, Rush Limbaugh from 12 to 3 p.m. and Howie Carr from 3 to 6 p.m. gives our listeners a full day on news talk and opinion.”
Bonnie Pack, sales manager, concluded, “This scheduling change comes at an unusual time for our station. We do most of our schedule changes in the fall after we conduct our annual listener survey. But Bruce Williams’ retirement from radio forced our hand a little. Most of my advertisers buy ads on WEGP for pure news talk, and our new schedule adjustment will deliver that to them on the consistent daytime schedule that Pat mentioned. Then in the evenings, the programming turns more to advice from Dave Ramsey and now, Dr. Laura.”
