ASHLAND – Vaughn M. Porter, 69, of Ashland, died Monday, March 15, 2010, at a Mars Hill healthcare facility. He was born in Presque Isle, April 11, 1940, the son of Glen and Evelyn (MacDonald) Porter.
Vaughn grew up in Masardis and graduated from Ashland Community High School in 1959.
He married Sandra Sutherland on Oct. 3, 1959, and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Vaughn was employed as a logging truck driver, and agricultural salesman, a car salesman and most recently an excavator operator. He enjoyed working in the woods in the summer.
Vaughn is survived by his devoted wife Sandra of Ashland; their two daughters and six grandchildren: Pam and Brian Buck and their children Brian, Jr., Justin, and Aubrey of Mapleton; Shari Porter of Camden and her children, Brandon of Westbrook; Taylor and Connor of Camden; one sister, Alice Chandler and husband Don of Mapleton; his uncle Lloyd MacDonald of West-brook; and several nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by little dog Daisy.
In addition to his parents, Vaughn was predeceased by a special aunt and uncle, Ethel Johnson and Roger Porter.
A funeral service was held at the Union Congregational Church, Sheridan Road, Ashland on Friday, March 19, with Pastor Nathan Gardiner officiating. Spring interment will be in the Ashland Municipal Cemetery. Those who wish may contribute in his memory to the Union Congregational Church of Ashland or to Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill. Funeral arrangements are a service of Stimson Ouellette Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland.
