HOULTON — Houlton High School will host a night of jazz performances Tuesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. in the school’s auditorium when music students from Houlton Junior/Senior High School jazz bands and show choirs take the stage.
The evening of music will open with the Junior High Jazz Band, under the direction of Kevin Mania. The group competed March 20 at Nokomis High School and will present its competition program. Cameron Clark, a seventh grade drummer in the group, was recognized for his “outstanding musicianship” by the judges during the competition.
The High School Jazz Band, directed by Joe Fagnant, will follow and perform three selections that earned them a gold award at the state festival in South Portland last weekend. The night will finish with two show choirs under the direction of Rebecca DeWan.
The Junior High Show Choir is formed from the same group that recently performed their musical "Doo Wop Wed Widing Hood" to a packed house at HHS. The high school show choir will perform its high-energy musical package from "Hairspray.”
Both groups will be performing at the State Vocal Jazz Festival, Saturday April 10 in Houlton. Tuesday’s concert is free to the public, however donations will be accepted. The doors open at 6:30 p.m.
