Scholar-Athletes saluted at banquet

    The Aroostook League Scholar-Athlete Banquet was held Thursday at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center.
    Athletes were nominated by their schools athletic administrator based on achievements in the classroom, in the athletic realm and on school citizenship.  Each school could nominate one male and one female scholar-athlete. 

    Aroostook League Scholar-Athletes are: Emily Little and Jaron Gray, Greater Houlton Christian Academy; Chelsea Sloat and Chris Williams, Hodgdon; Vanessa Sanderson and Jordan Codrey, Houlton; Kali Rush and Lucas Craig, Katahdin; Alexandra Bishop and Logan Desmond, Southern Aroostook; Taylor Baker and Casey Cobb, Ashland; Chelsea Hartin and Garrett Stiles, Central Aroostook; Brittany Doak and Jared Sleeper, Caribou; Taylor Burtt and Luke Fuller, Easton; Kelsie Wilson and Joshua Booth, Fort Fairfield; Gabrelle Naranja and Dustin Dubay, Fort Kent; Jasmine Cote and Ty Tracy, Limestone; Nicole Cyr and Nathan Beaulieu, Madawaska; Hallie Bartlett and Steven Ford, Presque Isle; Jennifer Ouellette and Derrick Rossignol, Van Buren; Felicia Cochran and Justin Howe, Washburn and Kayla Guerrette of Wisdom.
    Hodgdon’s Williams and Easton’s Burtt had their names randomly drawn and were the recipients of $250 scholarships, presented by the Aroostook League. All nominees received Aroostook Scholar-Athlete certificates.
    The guest speakers were Dwight Hunter, a retired teacher, athletic administrator, and coach, along with David and BethAnn Chamberlain of the US Ski Team.

    WINNERS – Hodgdon’s Chris Williams and Easton’s Taylor Burtt were $250 scholarship winners from the Aroostook League. The two won a drawing that included all the Scholar-Athlete selections.
