Wieden Gymnasium on the University of Maine at Presque Isle campus will be the site of a day-long basketball marathon Saturday, April 3.
The event is for children in grades 5 through 12 and is jointly sponsored by Presque Isle Student Ministries (PRiSM) and Christ Built Ministries Inc.
According to event organizer Dean Lawrence, the purpose is to provide area youth with a fun day and positive experience. Activities are free and run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organizers have scheduled individual contests and plenty of round-robin play time with many prizes.
Maine Sports Hall of Fame honoree Steve Shaw and UMPI Professor Barb Blackstone will be featured speakers. For information or to register a team, visit realizetheprize.com or call 551-3668.
The Presque Isle High School Varsity Club and Big Cheese Pizza are pleased to congratulate Matt Chasse for being selected as athlete of the week for the week of March 22-27.
Chasse’s hard work all week, his off-season weight room routine and his work ethic in practice is setting a positive example for his teammates.

A free Fit & Fun Day for children in grades 1-5 will be hosted April 10 by the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Physical Education Majors Club from 9:30 a.m.-noon in Gentile Hall. UMPI will host the 30th annual Spring Runoff 5K Road Race, a fundraiser for the men’s and women’s cross country teams, April 10 beginning at 9:45 a.m. at Wieden Hall on the University of Maine at Presque Isle campus.
