To the editor:
Sexual and physical abuse of children is prevalent in this country. Thirty-nine million children are being abused — 40 to 60 percent abused by their own family. Six to 10 percent are abused in school, 2 percent were abused by Catholic priests in the 1960s to mid-1980s. Like the pattern of a pitbull, refusing to let go of his victim, some keep bringing up the abuse by Catholic priests that happened 25 to 50 years ago. Tidal waves of insinuations, of aspersions, are being leveled at Pope Benedict XVI. Groundless innuendos. The Catholic Church is being singled for a horror that is prevalent in society as a whole.
Why is the Holy Father being singled out for these false aspersions? Because the world hates those who are not of “the world,” those who have a “spiritual dimension” in their lives.
