HOULTON —The Maine Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) recently-released its Maintenance Surface Treatment (MST) plan for 2010, which includes a number of projects in the area. MST provides a light surface of pavement, which is generally five-eighths of an inch thick over a road, preventing water and ice damage while also providing a smoother driving surface. MST extends the life of a road and helps to prevent more costly repairs later.
Paving is scheduled for Bancroft, Benedicta Township, Herseytown Township, Linneus, New Limerick, Reed Plantation, and Silver Ridge Township. In total almost 40 miles will be paved in the area, including 12.3 miles of State Route 11 starting in Herseytown Township and Soldiertown Township.
The Transportation budget, which recently passed the Legislature with bipartisan support, includes funding for 615.8 miles of MST statewide in 2010, meeting the MDOT annual goal. In addition to the Route 11 project, the MDOT will also be paving:
• 8 miles of Bancroft Road starting in Reed Plantation;
• 6.4 miles of Drews Lake Road in New Limerick, Hodgdon Mills Road in Linneus, and New Limerick Road in Linneus and New Limerick;
• 5.8 miles of French Road in Ludlow and New Limerick and Ludlow Road in Houlton and Ludlow;
• 5.1 miles of Benedicta Road in Benedicta Township and Sherman.
