Island Falls happenings
by Riva Hawkes
Clayton and Priscilla Varney have been in Winterport for the past 10 days, staying with their son and family, Nickie and Carol Varney, while they have appointments with their doctors. Clayton has had an ear problem and Priscilla developed an eye infection. Both are doing well, though, and plan to be home in another 10 days.
Chris and Amanda Hawkes arrived one day recently from Bangor to spend a couple of hours with Riva  Hawkes and while here they did a bit of outside work around the place, including filling up the spaces on the lawn which had been torn up some.
The country Music Jamboree is still going strong and is still held at the snowmobile club every Wednesday , starting at 6 p.m. Clayton and Charlene Webb attend about every Wednesday and Clayton is still singing a couple of times an evening. The last Wednesday of the month is potluck and, of course, Charlene makes something real good to take.
I have a great variety of birds now and for the first time, I saw four mourning doves on my front lawn and a few grosbeeks have showed up lately, also. They certainly clean out a bird feeder in no time so I have to replenish them quite often now. And I have at last seen robins on my back lawn. Friends keep asking me if  had seen any and the answer was always ‘no’ so will now be able to say ‘yes’  have seen them. And one lonesome deer still arrives in late afternoon to graze on the lower lawn, but she keeps close to the woods –not coming any further than my flagpole. Hopefully, more will join her when the grass gets greener.
