Locals return to shoot feature film

Caribou natives Nathan Oliver and Deidra Levasseur have big plans for the County. This summer they will be returning from their current residence in Montreal in order to shoot a feature length zombie movie in Caribou and Westfield. The movie, “The Zombies are Coming to Town!” will be filmed June 19 through July 3.     Oliver, Levasseur and Jason Bosch met in the Video Productions class at Caribou High School. Following their graduation in 2003, the trio moved to North Carolina to try and break into the film industry. Unhappy to be so far from home, they returned north. Bosch graduated from Southern Maine Community College with a degree in video production and works as a video editor. He will be the assistant director on this film.
Levasseur and Oliver left for Montreal attending Concordia University where Levasseur, earned a BA in the classics. She will be the production manager for the “Zombie” film.
Oliver is writing, producing and directing the film. Graduating with a F=BFA in film production from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia, he has been working there since 2006 in the film equipment depot; full-time as manager since 2008.
Oliver has worked on over a dozen student film projects in various capacities from director of photography to sound recordist. He has also written, directed, edited and produced three student films of his own. One of his projects, “Uncomfortable” was screened in Naples at the Uovo Fest. Oliver has also produced David Marriott’s 35mm short titled, “Dreamland,” (2010).
Also involved in the film project are longtime friends and Caribou natives Sam Hallett (gaffer); John Blanchette (music); Kat Savage (production coordinator) and Deanna Jordan (public relations).
Anyone interested in becoming involved with this production can go to zombies.sad-machine.com, e-mail zombies@sad-machine.com or locate them on Facebook.
A production meeting is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 24, at a location yet to be determined.
The group of Caribou natives is also looking for volunteer actors and extras. Audition and registration will be held on Sunday, April 25 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center.
Persons of all ages are welcome to tryout (minors will need parental consent prior to appearing on film).
A fund-raiser has also begun at kickstarter.com. The team is trying to raise $3000 to boost their make-up and special effects budget. Anyone wishing to donate can go to kickstarter.com and search for “The Zombies are Coming to Town.”
A synopsis of the film reads as follows:
‘The Zombies are Coming to Town!’ Is a clash between the punk-rock style of independent film making and the hilarity of the modern Zombie movie. The film pays homage to such classics as, ‘Night of the Living Dead,’ and ‘Return of the Living Dead,’ while leeching off the gore of movies like, Darkness: ‘The Vampire Version’ and ‘Zombie.’
Taking place in Caribou, the local population is affected by a cloud of sinister gas leaking from a government canister on an abandoned Air Force base. While the people picnicking near the base are affected first, we follow a group of young people led by Moose and Brenda through the harrowing and hilarious bloodbath of a zombie invasion.
“Everything changes, through, when it comes to light that this is just a movie. But, how can this be just a movie when the zombies are real?”
