The Houlton High School tennis teams played doubleheaders against Madawaska, and Fort Kent in Presque Isle.
Last Thursday in Madawaska, the Houlton boys were defeated 4-1 and 3-2.
In singles, Houlton player Craig Thomas was the only winner of the day, overtaking Matt Deschenes, 8-3. Houlton players Tyler Delano and Lucas Anderson were defeated, 8-3 and 8-5 by Nathan Beaulieu and Chris Lizotte, respectively.
In doubles, Houlton players D.J. McGary and Cody Woods fell to Jacques Daigle/Jamie Cyr, 8-1, while Aaron Anderson and Zach Ritchie lost to Gregoire Faucher/Aaron Thibeault, 8-5.
In their next match, Thomas again defeated Deschenes, 8-1, while Delano and Anderson lost 8-0 and 8-5 to their respective opponents.
In doubles, Anderson and Ritchie defeated Faucher/Thibeault, 8-4, while McGary and Woods fell 8-4.
In girl’s action, the Lady Shires lost 4-1 in each match.
Houlton’s Kelsey Fitzpatrick picked up the only win in singles action, 8-4 over Emily Collins. Hiba Bilal and Holly Bouvier of Houlton each were defeated in their matches, 8-1 and 8-4 by Audrey Bergeron and Jenna Parent, respectively.
In doubles, Houlton players Megan Gerath and Ashley Hannigan fell to Ashley Pelletier/Megan Ouellette, 8-5 and Daisy Torres and Courtney Bragan of Houlton lost 8-1 to Sarah Ringutte/Alyssa Deschaine.
In their next match, the only Houlton win was in doubles action when Torres and Bragan overtook their opponents, 9-8.
Other Houlton players, Bilal, Bouvier and Fitzpatrick all were defeated by scores of 8-2, 8-3 and 8-5, respectively. Gerath and Hannigan fell 8-1.
At Presque Isle, the Houlton girls lost 5-0, 5-0, while the boys finished with a 5-0 and 4-1 win against the Warriors.
Houlton’s Zach Harvey picked up an 8-5 win over Isaac Mitchell, while teammate Delano overtook Alex Charette, 8-6 and Anderson topped Logan Doak, 8-2.
In double, Woods and McGary won 8-2 over Lucas Woodward/Alex Chasse and Ritchie and Thomas of Houlton won by forfeit.
Playing the same opponents, Delano won 8-3, while Anderson fell 9-7. In doubles, Houlton won by double forfeit.
For the girls, Houlton’s Bilal lost to Becca Martin, 8-3; Bouvier to Carissa Pelletier, 8-1 and Fitzpatrick to Sam Landry, 8-5. In doubles, Gerath and Hannigan were defeated 8-2 by Roxy Pelletier/Kiera Caron and Torres and Bragan were bested 9-8 (7-3) by Abby Stevens/Victoria Bernard.
In the second match, first singles was a double forfeit. Bouvier lost 8-1 and Fitzpatrick, 8-2. In doubles, Gerath and Hannigan lost to Pelletier/Caron, 8-2 and there was another doubles forfeit.
