Smith, Ruth M., 89, May 9, 2010. Arrangements by Dunn Funeral Home, Houlton.
ROBINSON – Ruth Marie Haynes Smith passed away on Sunday, May 9th. She was consistently surrounded by her loving family, or her “people,” throughout her battle with cancer.
She was the precious daughter of Raleigh and Lois Haynes of Port Townsend, Washington. She was the sister to Edward Haynes and his wife Stephanie Haynes of Lake Stevens, Washington, and Raleigh Haynes of Port Angeles, Washington. She was preceded by her husband Jeffrey Smith of Blaine. Married to Nathan Smith of Blaine for seventeen years, Ruth was the mother to Echo and Naomi Smith, and stepmother to Amy Gillen, Pippin Smith, and Natasha Brewer. She cherished her moments with each and every grandchild, including; Elizabeth, Natalie, and Isaac Gillen, Pepper Smith, Sadie Kaply, and Ryder Brewer. Her mother-in-law is Sandra Smith Leighton of Mars Hill and her father-in-law is the late Keith Smith of Mars Hill. She was sister-in-law to the late David Smith, Keith Bart Smith and his wife Sharlene Smith, Kim Delano and her husband Pete Delano, Kevin Smith and his wife Sandra Smith, Chloe Shaw and her husband Calvin Shaw, and Leslee Mahon and her husband Tim Mahon; and treasured every minute with all of their children. She was friend to so many, including her eternal best friends, Sandy Ellis of Port Townsend, Washington, Sheryl Coyote of Chimacum, Washington, Cathi White of Port Townsend, Washington and Gail Lindseth of Mill Creek, Washington. Ruth carried a love and excitement of life which is illuminated through her homemade quilts, paintings, baskets, hand-blown glass, and other amazingly creative crafts. Persistent and independent, Ruth’s life should be remembered as a journey of dedication, love, and hope. Cancer may have stolen time from her life, but Ruth never allowed it to steal the life from her time. We cherish the footprints she left on all of our lives and thank God she has ended her journey in peace on her ship to a better place.
