To the editor:
I would like to start off by thanking Aroostook County for supporting this year’s Relay for Life. The last time I wrote to the paper we had 38 teams registered and we asked for 50. I am proud to say that with TEAM effort and a great mentor (Karin Howe), we have surpassed that goal. As of now, we have 52 teams registered! That is phenomenal! We have all managed to raise over $30,000 thus far. That is great teamwork and I am so proud to be part of all of this. I ask again that you continue to support Relay for Life and all our teams. This is a wonderful cause. The American Cancer Society is a legit and life-changing organization … I am living proof!
Next weekend will be a busy one in Caribou, as it is time for the annual City Wide Yard Sale. As part of Team Survivor, I ask that you come and join us. Officer Keith Ouellette will “Kook for the Kure” at the Caribou Learning Center, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday May 15th. We will be offering doughboys (from our very own Fredericks Southside), refreshments and having a homemade good bake sale.
Little Nickie, will also be there selling “Krafts for the Kause”. The crafts being sold are Fun Fusions, made for cancer patients by some really dedicated children.
A special thank-you should be given to little Riley McNeal for all the time she has given to benefit Relay.
We are also hosting a yard sale at 12 Franklin Street (across from Noyes Flower Shop) from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday. There we will be offering items from eight different families as well as selling luminaries in honor of a loved one, purple ribbons to show your support and tickets for a huge prize package offered by Team Caribou/Presque Isle Inn. The prize package is too awesome to list, come see for yourself, especially if you are a Boston Red Sox fan! Both locations will be selling raffle tickets for a breast cancer awareness wall hanging/quilt. We ask again that you please support us.
Other teams will be holding their own yard sales as well: Teague Park Scrappers at Teague Park School, Cancer Crushers at 459 Main Street and Team Caribou Inn at the Inn parking lot. Visit all our teams and show them your support. Either way, whomever you donate to, it all ends up supporting the same cause. Cancer patients everywhere will thank you for it.
We have hard-working teams planning some great fund-raisers. A few upcoming events include a benefit dance by Team Whooper’s, supported by our very own local Nadeau Family Band! Join them for a great night of fun on May 22nd at the Caribou VFW, doors open at 6 p.m. Team Luau Leaders will be having a car wash/barbecue at the Caribou Fire Dept. that same day … let them do the dirty work for you and support a great cause at the same time.
Relay for Life 2010 would again like to thank everyone who has joined a team, supported the cause, spread the word and lent a helping hand. We look forward to seeing you on June 4th at the Caribou High School. This is sure to be a life-changing evening full of laughter, tears, fun and support. As I said before, if Relay doesn’t touch your heart in some way, shape or form, then it’s clear to me that you don’t have one. Take a stand against cancer … be a light in someone’s darkness.
Thanks again from the bottom of this survivor’s heart! There is hope … if you believe!
