Happy Losers Meet
By Shirley Sides
The Happy Losers held their weekly meeting May 19 at the Congregational Church vestry in Island Falls. Our leader opened our meeting with our pledge and roll call. We had 14 ladies weigh-in and 12 attended our meeting.
Mary Shaw was the loser of the week, and Lois Green was runner-up. Great job ladies. Our secretary and treasurer gave reports for the week. The Cherry Blossoms team is winning in our contest. We had no program for the week, but we had a discussion on the things we should be doing to lose weight. Meetings are always interesting and informative.
Please feel welcome to our group every Wed.8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. weigh-ins and meeting starts at 9 a.m. Call 365-4884 for more info.

Island Falls news
Mr. and Mrs. Martin PanKratz have arrived from their home in Manhattan, K.S., to spend the summer at their cottage on Pleasant Pond. They have been summer residents for over 20 years and look forward eagerly to their time here.
Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Webb were in Manchester, N.H. on May 15 to attend the wedding of their great-niece Marel Lancaster to Jeffrey McDonald. Also attending the wedding were grandparents, Freela and Clayton Lancaster, from Dexter, and Greg and Darlene Kenny and family from Bangor. I heard from Clayton Varney recently, now living in Winterport, and both he and Priscilla are doing fine in their new environment and plan on a trip to camp soon.
I am not feeding the birds now that summer has arrived, but still get a few who come to see if there are seeds to be had. Do have the hummingbird feeder out now and so far, haven’t spotted a one. Maybe because the stray cat has been around and scared them off. Having a hard time keeping up with the dandelions growing all over my yard and right now the yard isn’t yellow with them. Have planted about all my flowers  during this warm weather, despite the swarms of black flies that seem determined to chew me up.
