9 ACHS students complete OSHA training
Nine students from the Industrial Arts Program at the Ashland Community High School participated in a 10-hour OSHA Training Program for General Industry.
Program goals were to inform students of the potential hazards that exist in the work place and how to avoid injuries from those hazards. Often times, they are hired without proper or sufficient training in specific areas of employment. Some of the topics covered were Fire Protection, Electrical Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, Power Tool Safety, Machine Guarding, Walking and Working Surfaces, Safety and Health, and Hazard Communication.
The trainer, Paul Ouellette, is an authorized O.S.H.A. General Industry Outreach Trainer and used an approved curriculum for the training. Every student who successfully completes the course is issued a completion card which can be used for an employment application process. It becomes their responsibility to look for potential hazards and take precautions wherever they work both at home and at their place of employment. The course cannot exhibit every hazard, but teaches the awareness and steps to take when one enters a workplace.
