Four towns respond to FF fire

FIREFIGHTERS FROM Fort Fairfield, Easton, Limestone and Presque Isle responded to a house fire on the Limestone Road yesterday morning. The firefighters were still fighting the blaze three hours later.
FORT FAIRFIELD — Firefighters from three towns were still fighting a house fire on the Limestone Road at presstime Tuesday.
One end of the Jim Campbell family home at 216 Limestone Road was engulfed in flames when the Fort Fairfield Fire Department arrived shortly after 9 a.m. Firefighters were able to “hem in” the burning end of the building, according to Fire Chief Paul Durepo. The front part of the home only sustained smoke damage. There were no injuries.
“We’re having a lot of trouble fighting it,” Durepo said. There was no attic access and many small spaces within the two-story structure. “We just cut, cut and cut,” he said. “We had to tear it up. There was no other way.”
The cause of the fire was not known at presstime. Assisting the Fort Fairfield department were firefighters and equipment from Easton, Limestone and Presque Isle, while Caribou provided back-up coverage for Fort Fairfield.
