Grade eight students promoted during Awards Night

MARS HILL — Twenty-two members of the eighth-grade class at Central Aroostook Junior High School gathered on Wednesday, June 9, for their Awards Night as they ready to step up to become members of the Freshman Class of CAHS.
Class President Kennedy Day welcomed friends and family to the event. Coach Jackins recognized Conor Todd and Jacob Canney for their accomplishments as part of the Junior High Baseball Team. Coach Angel King and her husband, Loren, recognized the members of the Junior High Softball team: Marissa Anthony, Alexis Bradbury, Stephanie Dame, Kennedy Dame, Brittany Drost and Megan King.
Classmates Megan King, Sage Ashby, Nick Footer and Sadie Curit presented the class prophecy, to much laughter by all. Kennedy and Stephanie Dame made a special presentation by dedicating their yearbook to Betsy Allen. Stephanie then presented a vocal selection, “Every Part of Me” by Miley Cyrus.
Students recognized by Art teacher Wanda Jackins included Stephanie Dame, Alexis Bradbury, Megan King and Josiah Jackins. Recognized by the PE teacher, Kevin Jackins, was Marissa Anthony. Mrs. Milbrath recognized Colby Endy with the Math Award. She also honored the members of the Math Team. Finishing first was Cory Richardson, who had the highest score in Aroostook County. Finishing second was Spencer Garrison, third was Matthew Williams and fourth was Sage Ashby. Students that took an online algebra course included Alexis Bradbury, Stephanie Dame, Kennedy Day, Megan King, Derick Lawrence, Keighan Robichaud and Conor Todd.
Mr. York presented the Social Studies Award to Stephanie Dame. Mrs. Allen and Ms. Kearney recognized Megan King with the award for English. Also recognized were students that participated in the Gifted and Talented Improv Problem competition at UMPI. Those students included: Jacob Canney, Stephanie Dame, Kennedy Day and Megan King. This talented group placed first in the competition.
Ms. Cousins presented the science award to Jacob Canney. Recognized with the National Honor Society Scholastic Achievement Award was Stephanie Dame. Students recognized for being named Students of the Month throughout the school year included: Sage Ashby, Jacob Canney, Stephanie Dame, Kennedy Day and Spencer Garrison. Named Student of the Year was Stephanie Dame.
Ms. Kearney and Ms. Cousins presented the Good Citizenship Award to Kennedy Day as well as the State of Maine Citizenship Award. The Daughters of the Revolution Citizenship Award was presented to Stephanie Dame. Recognized for Perfect Attendance was Brittany Drost.
Principal Grass presented Silver Certificates, for maintaining grades between 80-89, to: Spencer Garrison, Jacob Canney, Derick Lawrence, Brittany Drost and Josiah Jackins. Gold Certificates, for maintaining grades between 90-100, were presented to: Megan King, Stephanie Dame, Kennedy Day and Conor Todd.
A remarkable slideshow presentation, done by Stephanie Dame, Kennedy Day and Alexis Bradbury, was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Students were then presented with Certificates of Promotion by Mr. Grass and the junior high staff. Mr. Grass then closed by encouraging the students to make the most of their high school classes and to work hard to achieve their goals.
