PIHS students qualify
for National Merit Scholarship
PRESQUE ISLE – Brandan Jeter and Paul Elish, both juniors at Presque Isle High School, were notified recently by the National Merit Scholarship Corp. that they are among the 50,000 students nationwide who have met the requirements to enter the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The distinction was made based on the students’ results of the 2009 PSAT. Of the 1.5 million students who took the PSAT in 2009, Jeter and Elish scored among the top 50,000 or the top 3 percent of all students. Of these 50,000 students, 16,000 will be named National Merit Program Semifinalists in September. Ultimately, approximately 8,200 National Merit Scholarships will be offered in 2011.

Jeter is the son of Robin Wipperman of Presque Isle and Michael Jeter of Phoenix, and Elish is the son of Walt and Therese Elish of Presque Isle.
