During the Community Relations Luncheon on June 17, Dr. Reginald Reed was the recipient of a legislative sentiment as presented to him by Reps. Peter Edgecomb and Bernard Ayotte. Dr. Reed recently announced his retirement and the sentiment honors his lifetime commitment to education.
“I join representative Edgecomb in congratulating Dr. Reed,” said Rep. Ayotte. “A life spent in the service of others is the only way that it can really be rewarding, and Dr. Reed was dedicated to the service of others his entire life. The world is a better place because you lived, and I congratulate you for that,” Rep. Ayotte told Dr. Reed.
Rep. Ayotte also mentioned that while researching Dr. Reed’s accomplishments, one of the most poignant pieces of the past that he came across was the fact that Dr. Reed learned his tremendous work ethic in the potato fields with his mother. Rep. Ayotte joked that working in the potato fields was such hard work, that it most likely inspired both Dr. Reed and himself to attend college.
Rep. Edgecomb read the sentiment to the audience, which among other things stated on behalf of the 124th legislature and the people of the state of Maine: “we extend our appreciation to Dr. Reed for his commitment to the citizens of the state and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
