LIMESTONE — Educator, friend and colleague at the Loring Job Corps Center Robert (Bob) Longlais was remembered last Friday when his students, family and co-workers gathered to ceremoniously plant a red maple to honor his memory. Bob passed away in February earlier this year.

Melissa Green recalls the impact educator Robert Longlais had on her life during the tree dedication ceremony on June 25. At far left, Longlais’ co-worker Carole Belanger looks on. A photo of Longlais rested at the base of the tree. “He inspired us to want something better for ourselves than where we came from,” said LJC student Melissa Green. “He wanted us to get the most out of life, grow from our experiences, love, laugh, gain insight and wisdom; we can only pray that we will make him proud in all that we do.”
Even while undergoing cancer treatment Longlais was a dedicated and loyal teacher who sincerely made a difference in the lives of his students. He began his career at LJC in 2005 after serving in the U.S. Army for 20 years.
“This tree is a symbol of his strength, his heart and his dedication to the students of the Loring Job Corps Center,” said LJC Educator Carole Belanger, “may it always stand tall.”
