S.W. Collins donates land to KVHC

    HOULTON — S.W. Collins Company donated 2,524 square feet of property with a value of $4,500 to Katahdin Valley Health Center (KVHC). The land is located in Houlton, with 1,801 square feet on the north boundary of KVHC’s Houlton facility, while 723 square feet is to the east adjacent to S.W. Collins store at 57 Bangor St.
    KVHC will use the donated land for future planed facility expansion, expand patient parking and will build a retaining wall to help with erosion as well as provide for better drainage. KVHC Chief Executive Officer Durward Humphrey said, “Due to the expansion of services offered at our Houlton Facility; such as Occupational medicine in August 2009, Brushett and Parker’s family practice October 2009, and the most recent addition the Open access clinic; S.W. Collins Company’s generous gift couldn’t have come at a better time. The land will be utilized to enhance access to health services throughout the service area.”
    Katahdin Valley Health Center (KVHC) is a provider of high quality, cost effective primary health, dental, substance abuse and mental health care to the people in the Greater Katahdin Region. A Federally Qualified Health Center, KVHC is a nonprofit business governed by a board of directors, comprised of area volunteers, funded by a federal grant under Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
    KVHC provides high quality health care to low income, uninsured and under-insured community members who may not otherwise have those services available to them. KVHC accepts all insurance, including Medicare and MaineCare and offers a sliding fee program. KVHC employs 82 people and growing at its facilities in Houlton, Island Falls, Millinocket and Patten.
