Hot, Hot Hot
Remember, that if the temperature is hot for you it’s also hot for your pets. Leaving your pet in a vehicle for any period of time during these hot summer days could be fatal. If you travel with a pet, make arrangement to ventilate your vehicle, and have water available for them.
Never leave your pet in a vehicle for periods of time, without checking on them. Maine has a statute that specifically addresses this (Title 7, Section 4011.1.J) and owners can receive a civil summons with penalties from $500 to $2500 for a first offense of Cruelty to an Animal.
Anyone seeing a pet that has been left in a vehicle for long periods of time, and believe that pet to be in jeopardy, should call the Houlton Police Department at 532-2287.
