Community prepares for Robinson Days
MARS HILL
Robinson will be the place to be on Saturday, July 24. The parade will begin at 2 p.m., starting from the old school and travel to Gardner’s camping area, where a picnic will begin at 4 p.m. Wally and the Virginians will provide music through the evening. Mark your calendars now!!
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning, July 6, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. The special guest was Assistant District Governor Nancy Fletcher. She installed the incoming officers for the 2010-2011 year.
Officers are President Ed Wright, Vice President Tomi Henderson, Secretary Richard Watson and Treasurer Rena Kearney. Directors include Larry Fletcher, Pam Townsend, Jim Shaw and Steve Hitchcock — past president.
President Wright presented a plaque to outgoing President Steve Hitchcock, then spoke of some of his goals for the upcoming year.
Eleanor Grow celebrated her 80th birthday on July 4. She spent the day with her three sons and their families in the Portland area. She also enjoyed a surprise party on June 28 at the Bonanza Restaurant in Presque Isle. Those attending included her sisters, Mary Anne Buck, and Geraldine andGary Dyer; and her brother. Bob and Joan Tweedie. Sending best wishes, but unable to attend, was her brother, Jim and Marie Tweedie.
Others attending the special celebration were: Patti McCrum and her daughters Sarah and Jennifer and girls Taylor and Madison; Bobbi McCrum and sons Lane, Kellen and Abram; Julie Tweedie; Susan Tweedie and daughters Michelle and Betsy with baby Elizabeth; Laurie Buck; Martha Buck and Rossalyn; Kelsey and Malerie Buck; Paige Doyen; Julie Boyd; Lois Belyea; Mary Tapley; Eva Prest; Claudia Udasco; Dorothy and Humphrey Bridges; Michael Clark; Maurice Clark; Judy Robinson; Donna Mullen; Paula Plissey; Carm Dickinson; Rita Knight; Sonja Haines; Ardis Humphrey; and Opal O’Connor. The beautiful birthday cake was made by Ardis Humphrey of Washburn.
The Crime Stoppers 19th Annual Golf Tournament fund-raiser will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 31 and Aug. 1, at the Mars Hill Country Club. This four-person team scramble is an 18-hole tournament. Tee times are 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on each day.
There is a men’s and women’s division with $5,000 in cash and prizes. The hole-in-one prize is $10,000 or a 2010 Toyota Tacoma. To sign up to play, contact the Mars Hill Country Club at 425-4802.
There is Live Music on Thursday nights from 6 – 9. They play a mixture of music, from country to old-time rock ‘n roll and more. There isn’t a cover charge on Thursdays, but donations are appreciated. If you haven’t been to the hall on Thursdays, you should stop by to have a grand time.
On Saturday, July 24, there will be a “Dance for the Dogs” at the hall. The BHA is holding a dance to raise money to purchase protective vests for the area’s canine police officers. If you would like to make a donation, or get more information on the dance, please contact the BHA President Jann Votaw at 425-7901.
The United Methodist churches in Mars Hill and Easton will be combining for services at 10 a.m. throughout the summer.
The schedule for the summer is: June 13 – July 4 at 39 Station Road in Easton; July 11 at the Union Church, River de Chute, Ladner Road in Easton; July 18 at 39 Station Road in Easton; July 25 – Aug. 29 at 20 Main Street in Mars Hill. Starting on Sept. 5, the churches will resume their regular worship schedule of Easton UMC at 9 a.m. and Mars Hill UMC at 10:45 a.m.

THE SENIOR HIGH CHORUS sang several numbers during the 2010 Central Aroostook Jr./Sr. Spring Music Concert on June 1. Their first number featured soloist Shannon Todd and Lindsay Watson.

THE BAND DIRECTOR arranged a special number called "Crazy Train" during the 2010 Central Aroostook Jr./Sr. Spring Music Concert on June 1. The percussion ensemble is called "Sticks Alive" and will be open next year to all students who want to take part.
Benefit for Max and Kathy Miller
