The Washburn Trailrunners announce that a section of the trail will be closing in the near future due to repair and replacement of the Salmon Brook Bridge. This project will take approximately two weeks, and a possible alternative route is being looked into and information will be posted as soon as it is available.
The repair and replacement of the bridge area will benefit trail users, making the area much safer. The project is paid for by a federal grand from the Recreation Trail Program, applied for by the Trailrunners. The repairs will be done by a local business, Langille Construction. Any money remaining will be used for maintenance efforts to clear ditches that have been filling up over several years and need re-ditching.
For further information or questions, contact Trailrunners President Bill Pike at 455-8178 or 227-2799.

Local ATVers will be enjoying a club ride on Sunday, July 18, leaving their Gould Street clubhouse at 9 a.m. They are heading to Van Buren, while making an 85-mile round-trip loop out of the ride. The first part of their route will include Carson, then towards New Sweden to take the Connector Trail to the Caribou Rail Bed. There will be a 15-minute break along this trail, noting that the Connector Trail has a small covered bridge and a few catwalk bridges. Once they are onto the Caribou Rail Bed, the group will head up to Stockholm where they’ll have another 15-minute break in the large gravel pit before heading the final leg up to Van Buren where they’ll meet at the Tastee Freeze for lunch.
After re-fueling, they’ll be heading home through the swing off to Washburn in Stockholm and allow for another 15-minute break to ensure all have made the swing off before heading down to Blackstone Siding and into Perham. There the group will stop at the Calvin Wardwell Trail for their last small break of the trek. The estimated return time is 4 p.m. at the clubhouse. As the trail may be dusty, come prepared with goggles or other eye protection and children under 18 must wear helmets.

On Tuesday, June 15, members of the Wade selectmen held a meeting, and opened with public comment time.
A road update included notice of continuing summer road work, ditching, calcium being spread and some road patching done.
The town budget was reviewed, and due to the state decreasing the Homestead Exemption, the town will be losing money from the state, and also a loss in state revenue sharing. The selectmen noted that the education budget is up for the fiscal year, but proving somewhat helpful is the fact that the town budget is lower than last year.
Of special interest to Wade residents, space for a new Wade Town Office has been rented in Washburn at 1280 Main Street, Apartment 2. This office space is large enough for the municipal offices, space for voting, room to hold selectmen or other town meetings and storage space. The office hours will be set in the near future.
New Treasurer/Tax Collector Nicole Farley has also been sworn in as the assistant town clerk, working alongside Town Clerk Cheryle Matowitz.
Washburn Boy Scout Troop 177 recently attended the annual Spring Camporee, hosted by Troop 194 of Fort Fairfield. It was held at Farm Park which was a grand setting for the fun weekend.
The Scouts took part in several events over the two-day Camporee including a Dutch oven cook-off, with the following results: Eagle Patrol took third place in both the Compass Course and First Aid. The Bear Patrol brought home the first place in the Compass Course, and the troop took second place in campsite inspection and second place in the Dutch Oven Cook-off. The menu included a meal of sparkling potatoes, white chicken chili over rice and apple and pineapple cobbler.
At the closing ceremony the troop was awarded the coveted First Place Award for the weekend, a special traveling trophy in honor of longtime Scouter Edward Chase of Ashland. Last fall the troop earned the Ward Silsbee traveling trophy in honor of Ward Silsbee of Caribou. These awards are a combination of Scout skills, working together as a troop and patrol, showing Scouting spirit and following the Scout Law and Oath during the weekend.
Scouts attending representing Troop 177 were: Stacy Skinner, Curtis Thompson, Scoutmaster Larry Harrison, Tim Roix, Taylor Skinner, Brandon Cropley, Bryce Roix, Caleb Thompson, Daniel Roy, Tyler Jardine, Parker Thompson, Randy Thompson and Kody Brissette.
