Fund-raiser for K-9 vests

On Saturday July 24, the Bridgewater Historical Association is holding a dance to raise money for the purchase of protective vests for our area’s canine police officers. The dance will run from 8 p.m. ‘til midnight. There will be live music. Tickets are $6 for one and $10 for two. Come on out and support our canine officers. All proceeds will go to purchase vests. There will be some door prizes and a 50/50.
Don’t forget our Thursday night music with “OUTSIDE IN” from 6-9 p.m. There is no cover charge, however donations are appreciated. The donations on music nights are going towards sound system equipment for the hall.

Robinson will be the place to be on Saturday, July 24. The parade will begin at 2 p.m. from the old school and travel to Gardner’s camping area, where a picnic will begin at 4 p.m. Wally and the Virginians will provide music through the evening. Mark your calendars now!!
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning, July 13, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. Special guests were District Governor John Carkner, District Governor Elect Leigh Cummings and Assistant District Governor Nancy Fletcher.
Carkner extended greetings from International President Ray Klinginsmith, whose motto for his year is “Building Communities — Bridging Continents.” He spoke to the group about the goals of the district: membership growth, Rotary Foundation growth and public relations.
He also spoke of some of the projects that Rotary is involved in, from eradicating Polio, encouraging literacy, youth programs and clean water availability.
Outgoing President Steve Hitchcock was presented with a plaque by incoming President Ed Wright at the Mars Hill Rotary Club meeting on July 6.
The Crime Stoppers 19th annual Golf Tournament fund-raiser will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 31 and Aug. 1, at the Mars Hill Country Club. This four-person team scramble is an 18-hole tournament. Tee times are 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on each day.
There is a men’s and women’s division with $5,000 in cash and prizes. The hole-in-one prize is $10,000 or a 2010 Toyota Tacoma. To sign up to play, contact the Mars Hill Country Club at 425-4802.
The United Methodist churches in Mars Hill and Easton will be combining for services at 10 a.m. throughout the summer.
The schedule for the summer is: June 13 to July 4 at 39 Station Road in Easton; July 11 at the Union Church, River de Chute, Ladner Road in Easton; July 18 at 39 Station Road in Easton. July 25 through Aug. 29 at 20 Main Street in Mars Hill. Starting on Sept. 5, the churches will resume their regular worship schedule of Easton UMC at 9 a.m. and Mars Hill UMC at 10:45 a.m.
BIG BAD Billy Bob Buford — AKA Pastor Mitch Ross — was captured during the final program at the Daily Vacation Bible School at the United Baptist Church in Mars Hill on Friday, July 9. This notorious vegetable thief was sentenced to time in the dunking booth for his crimes and was sent splashing quite a few times by the excited kids (and adults)!!
SPOUSE GETS DUNKED — Following the closing program at the Daily Vacation Bible School at the United Baptist Church in Mars Hill on Friday, July 9, Leanne Bourgoin took a turn trying to dunk her hubby, Alex, as everyone watched with great anticipation. She finally hit the target on her fourth try!
Baylor University, located in Waco, Texas, conferred degrees on more than 2,000 graduates during spring commencement exercises May 14-15 in the Ferrell Center on the Baylor campus. Among those graduating this spring was Adam Mitchell Ross, of Mars Hill, who received an MSED degree, who majored in health, human performance and recreation.
The Mars Hill Nursing Home held an old fashion jam on Wednesday, July 14. Visiting from Winslow and playing the banjo’s are, from left: Doreen Cloutier and Orland McPherson. Orland served as a representative during the same time as the late Carl W, Smith. Pictured on the right is Carl’s wife, Priscilla Smith, a resident of the home, playing the accordion. Priscilla will be 90 on her next birthday!
Residents of the Mars Hill Nursing Home enjoyed singing to music performed July 14 by visiting Winslow residents Doreen Cloutier and Orland McPherson, joined by nursing home resident Priscilla Smith.
