PRESQUE ISLE — A number of rural mailboxes were damaged sometime over the weekend and police are looking for the person or persons responsible.

The Presque Isle Police Department began receiving calls around 7 a.m. Monday, July 19, from citizens who reported finding their mailboxes either dented or completely knocked off their posts.
Officer Lynn Hartley, PIPD, was assigned and began responding to the calls.
Reports came in from residents on the east side of town living on the Cleaves and (Route 10) Easton roads; the Chapman Road to the south; and the Parsons Road to the north of the city.
“We had at least three boxes damaged on the Cleaves Road, two boxes on the Easton Road, a couple on the Chapman Road and a couple on the Parsons Road,” said Hartley. “In each case the box was either knocked over or dented.”
The investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact 764-4476.
