6th annual Girls “County” Basketball Shootout
The sixth annual Girls “County” Basketball Shootout, sponsored by the Pepsi Bottling Group, is slated for Friday and Saturday, July 23-24 in Fort Fairfield. The tournament consists of 16 teams from around the county, state and Canada that will play a round-robin format before going to semi-final and final action.
Teams from Caribou, Shead, Penobscot Valley, Narragaugus, Stearns, Central Aroostook, Washburn, Fort Kent, Madawaska, Southern Aroostook, Limestone, Easton, Southern Victoria and Fort Fairfield will compete for the title.
Games are open to the public and will be held at Fort Fairfield High School and community center beginning Friday at noon. Admission is $5 per person and $3 per student, which is good for all games on both days.

Motorcycle club to hold Make-A-Wish raffle
The United Vets Motorcycle Club will hold its annual “Make-A-Wish” Raffle Run on Sunday, July 25, starting at Travelers’ Truckstop in Houlton at 8 a.m. and ending at the Caribou American Legion for a spaghetti feed and raffle at 3 p.m.
All proceeds will go to help grant a wish for a child from Aroostook County. For more information, call 532-3030.
Football meeting set for Tuesday at UMPI
Aroostook Football has announced that all players interested in participating in the 2010 Junior Huskies (seventh and eighth grades) and Peewee Huskies (fifth and sixth grades) will be meeting (along with their parents) on Tuesday, July 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the Weiden Gym on the UMPI campus in Presque Isle. This meeting is essential to your involvement. Parents will have a chance to meet the coaches and ask questions. Players will receive registration packets and raffle tickets (in order to be able to earn the registration fee of $150 for the Juniors and $100 for the Peewees).
Practices for the Central Aroostook Middle School Football Program will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings in mid- to late-August at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle.

Legends group selects scholarship winners
Maine Sport Legends Northern District has chosen Kelsey Park of Presque Isle High School and Samuel Chasse of Fort Kent Community High School to receive the Scholar/Athlete Scholarships for 2010.
They are being recognized for their outstanding scholarship, athletic accomplishments and community service. Each will receive $500 and will be eligible for an additional $1,000 scholarship to be chosen out of the eight scholar/athletes in the state.
They, along with the six other area winners, will be honored at the annual Maine Sport Legends Banquet on Oct. 10 at the Alfond Boy’s and Girl’s Club in Waterville.
