Houlton 9-10-year-old all-star squad wins Caribou Lions’ LL tourney

The Houlton 9-10-year-old Little League all-stars defeated Presque Isle, 18-10, in the championship game to win the Caribou Lions’ Little League Invitational Tournament, ending their all-star season.
Houlton opened the tournament with a 10-4 win over Presque Isle behind Abe Lorom and Zach Cowperthwaite’s combined pitching performance. Pacing Houlton’s offense was Nate Mooers with three hits. Dillan Buzzell tripled, while Isia Bouchard belted a home run. Lorom and Cowperthwaite backed their own cause each doubling.
In the second game, Houlton overpowered Caribou, 19-5 behind Bouchard’s and Mooers’ pitching effort, as they combined to toss an eight-hitter, while striking out eight and walking six. Leading Houlton hitters were Lorom and Bouchard with three hits apiece, while Cowperthwaite and Mooers had two hits each. Also chipping in offensively were Nick Delucca, Andrew Tuttle, Nick Perfitt and Colby Callnan.
In the championship game, Houlton overtook Presque Isle for the second time, 18-10. Lorom picked up the win with relief help from Bouchard. Lorom and Bouchard allowed 14 hits, struck out seven and walked three.
Leading Houlton’s offense were Mooers and Bouchard with four hits apiece, while Lorom added three hits. Cowperthwaite, Buzzell, Lucas Porter and Sam Lilley all had two hits.
“During the weekend, Nate Mooers was a perfect 9-for-9 with two walks and nine RBIs,” said coach Moose Karnes. “Zach Hagan, who caught most games, also drew nine walks.”
