Thanks to all participants and sponsors for this year’s County Open Charity Golf Tournament which benefits the Health Services Foundation. Despite a lack of rain lately, both courses’ maintenance crews did a great job to have quality playing conditions for the weekend’s full schedule of golf events. Congratulations to all winners on the weekend.

Finishing on Saturday at VaJoWa were the C and Ladies’ Divisions. In the C Division, Matt Carroll placed number one on the weekend, while Tom Moakler and Bob Anderson finished close behind. Net winners were Ryan Dee, Tim Thompson and Ken Delano.
Taking first place in the Ladies’ Division was LouAnn Dwyer with a score of 175. Misty Marino came in second with a score of 180, while Nancy Thompson finished third, carding a 187 for the tournament. Top net scores were Bev Osborne, 142; Lori Holmes, 143; and Sarah Howland, 151.
The Scramble event finished off the weekend here at VaJoWa. The team of Josh McGuire, Ian and Porter Gervais and Nick Chase took first place with a great score of 155. Second place went to Scot Walker, Dave Dubois, Dylan Flewelling and Joe McAuliffe with a score of 159. Rounding out the top three, and winning with a tie breaker, was the team of Dave Edgar, Mike Fleming, Jerry York and Greg Palmer Sr. who posted a score of 60.
Net winning teams were Steve Walker, John Walker, Parker Walker and Bill Boulier with a score of 50.4; Peter Stanley, Barrett Potter, Brad Potter and Jamie Wyman with a score of 51.4; and Mitch and Logan Holmes, Marty Gervais and Eric Morris with a score of 52.9.
Closest to the Pin winners were Brad Potter, Nick Cullen, Angela Hunter and Ian Gervais. Gervais also picked up the Long Drive Contest. Thanks again to all participants!
Playoffs are under way for Men’s Twilight League, with eight teams remaining. Bill Boulier and Greg Douglas have the overall number-one seed and look to keep their undefeated season going. Good luck to all teams and thanks for playing in this year’s league.
Couples are still playing on Sunday afternoons. This week saw a three-way tie at the top between the mixed teams of Stuart Kelley and Valerie Powers, Francis Cyr and Betty Smallwood, and Jarice Kelley and Jenness Gushee.
On Thursday Aug. 19, VaJoWa will be closed to the public until approximately 1 p.m. due to a scheduled private booking.
Just about a month away is the annual Central-Southern Aroostook Challenge, which puts members of Mars Hill and VaJoWa up against each other in a match play weekend. All VaJoWa members be sure to tell the Pro Shop if you’d like to play in this event which is scheduled for Sept. 18 and 19.
