Hobby farm trip open to seniors

Aroostook County is busting at the seams with many small hobby farms. On Thursday, Sept. 16, the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department will set out to explore these farms in the Perham, Woodland and Washburn area.

The cost of the trip is $10 and includes admission and transportation to and from the Caribou Wellness Center. The trip will leave from the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center at 9 a.m. and return by 4 p.m.

Hobby farms are a growing segment of the agricultural industry, they usually consist of family members participating in the work load associated with the operation of the farm. Hobby farms traditionally offer a wider variety of crops being raised and a larger variety of farm animals on the land. The culture on the hobby farm is very consistent of the early homesteaders that originally settled these lands in this beautiful part of Aroostook County.

Participants should bring a bag lunch. For more information or to register, call 493-4224.
