Crash slows Main St. traffic

PRESQUE ISLE — A two-vehicle crash on Main Street Sept. 8 slowed traffic for about 20 minutes as emergency personnel cleared the scene.
The Presque Isle Police Department was notified of the accident at approximately 1:53 p.m. Sgt. Mark Barnes responded to investigate, while Sgt. Joey Seeley provided traffic control.
“Bernadette M. King, 60, of Presque Isle, was traveling west on Trombley Street, when she attempted to turn left onto Main Street and cut off Judson F. Hemphill, 65, of Presque Isle, who was traveling north on Main Street,” said Barnes.
According to Barnes, King saw Hemphill’s blinker, thought he was turning right and considered it safe to proceed from her position at the stop sign on Trombley Street.
“Hemphill had, in fact, just signaled to change lanes and had no intention of turning,” Barnes said.
Hemphill, who was operating a 1999 Ford pickup, hit King’s 2003 Dodge van on the driver’s side, causing about $4,000 in damage. Hemphill’s truck sustained approximately $2,000 in damage.
Jerry’s Towing was called and removed the van from the scene. Hemphill’s truck was operational and was driven away. No serious injuries were reported. Both vehicles were insured.
Crown Ambulance and the Presque Isle Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
