SP-Jenna Selander-dc1-ar-30It was a record-setting week for the Caribou girls soccer program, as the Vikings’ Jenna Selander became the school’s all-time leading scorer Saturday

With most Aroostook County squads now on harvest break, the focus for many squads shifts to maintaining positive momentum through the practice for the next few weeks. The last countable day for regular season soccer games is Oct. 19.

The girls soccer standings as determined by Maine Principals’ Association Heal Points system for games played through Monday, Sept. 20 were as follows.

In Eastern Class B, Caribou (6-0-1, 36.4158 points) is the top-ranked team in the 18-squad region, while Presque Isle (3-2-1, 17.5383) is third.

In Eastern Class D, Washburn (7-3-2, 47.2524 points) is first in the 15-team region, while Ashland (5-2, 36.2500) is fourth; Central Aroostook (4-4-1, 20.1374) is fifth; Fort Fairfield (5-4-1, 19.7959) is sixth; Easton (6-5, 13.6813) is seventh; and Limestone-MSSM (2-7, 3.2653) is 10th.

The following is a recap of games played through Monday.

Caribou 8, Mattanawcook 0 — At Caribou Saturday, it was a record-breaking day for Selander, the talented senior striker for Caribou. Selander became the school’s all-time leading goal scorer with her first goal and added two more as the Vikings routed Mattanawcook.

The previous record was held by Beth Corrow, a 1988 graduate of Caribou High School, who scored 53 career goals at CHS. Seleander now has 56 goals on the season, with seven games remaining.

“The team played well and continued to play good soccer by passing the ball and playing smart,” Caribou coach Todd Albert said. “We did have 19 corner kicks on the day and had many good opportunities to score. I was pleased with the play of the girls off the bench to come in and play good minutes and play a well controled soccer game.”

Also scoring for Caribou were Jamie Martin (2 goals), Olivia Sleeper (goal, 2 assists), Lydia Kieffer (goal, 2 assists), Jessica Zbylut (goal), Ginger Kieffer (assist) and Paige Small (assist).

In goal for the Vikings, Rilee Elliott stopped both shots she faced. Mattanawcook’s Taylor Blood had 11 saves on 36 shots

“We didn’t lose focus and become complacent,” Albert added. “This team works hard and has good depth. We have to continue to work hard and continue to strive to get better. We have to go into every game expecting a tough game, and be ready to play.”

Central Aroostook 5, Limestone-MSSM 1 — At Limestone Thursday, Vicki McIntyre scored two goals, while Olivia Garrison added a goal and an assist for the Panthers. Rachael Grew and Whitney Klein also had solo goals for CAHS, while Marissa Anthony and Kristen Long each had an assist.

Amanda Allen scored on a penalty kick for the Eagles.

Paige Garrison had seven saves on 17 shots for CAHS, while Autumn Beauchamp and Ashlynn Kelly combined for eight saves on 23 shots for the Eagles.

Washburn 1, Fort Fairfield 1 — At Fort Fairfield Sept. 15, Lindsey Blackstone scored with 21 minutes left in regulation to help Washburn salvage a tie. Carmen Bragg assisted on the goal for the 7-3-2 Beavers while Rayah Saucier saved 10 of 14 shots.

Kylie Plourde scored in the second half for Fort Fairfield off Janae Libby’s assist. Katy Donovan had 17 saves on 23 shots.
