ImagePeter Collett, left, chairman of Houlton’s Salvation Army advisory board, congratulates Steve and Irma Pearl on their promotion to major from captain. Collett said the promotion was “well deserved” for their “tremendous effort in Houlton offering support to those members of the community in need of assistance.” He also said: “One of the major contributions the Pearls have made is the opening of the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Pleasant St. in Houlton which helps provide a portion of the funds to give assistance to residents.” The Pearls have been in the Salvation Army for 15 years with the last five in Houlton. They now wear epaulets on their shoulders with the crest bearing the ecclesiastical insignia of the Salvation Army. Major Irma said: “I am really excited about the promotion and will continue to do what the Lord has called me to do here.” Her husband agreed saying he looked forward to continuing their work.
