The Houlton Shiretown varsity golf team finished its season with a 7-2 record after defeating Fort Kent on Monday, 176-199.
Low medalist of the meet was Houlton’s Ian Gervais with a score of 41.
Houlton scores were Gaige Flewelling and Cole McLaughlin, 44s, Parker Sanderson 45, Nick Chase 46, Logan Shaffer 47, Isaac Brown 48, Ethan Quint 52 and Alex Donovan 55.
The Houlton Shires will be competing in the Eastern Maine Class C Regional Tournament on Thursday at JaTo Highlands in Lincoln.
Houlton coach Marty Gervais explained this is an 18-hole event with 12 teams in Class C competing for three spots available for the State Golf Championship to be held on Oct. 9 at Natanis Golf course in southern Maine.
The Houlton team will be represented at JaTo by Gervais, Chase, Shaffer, Flewelling and Sanderson.
“Team members competing at JaTo will also have the opportunity to qualify for the State Individual Tournament on October 16,” said coach Gervais. “The top 22 golfers at JaTo will advance to the State Individual Tournament.”
Last year, Houlton won the Eastern Regional Tournament, and the Class C State Championship, as well. “With everyone back from the 2009 squad, the team hopes they can once again compete in a very tough Class C division,” said coach Gervais.
At JaTo Highlands during a four-way match, Presque Isle (7-1) and Houlton tied with a 159, with Presque Isle winning the tiebreaker. Caribou (1-6) finished with a 175, followed by Fort Kent (1-6) with a score of 185.
Houlton’s Chase was the low medalist of the event with a score of 37.
Presque Isle scorers were: Evan Waddell, 43; Travis Dyer, 39; Alex Tuttle, 41; Adam Flynn, 40; Jordan Hallett, 43; Matt Freeman, 47; Cody Merrill, 39 and Oliver Zubrick, 53.
Houlton was led by Chase with a 37, Gervais, 40; Sanderson, 42; Flewelling, 46; Shaffer, 40; Holmes, 48; Quint, 45 and Donovan, 42.
Caribou: Ben Wyman, 40; Caleb Chapman, 42; Matt Kamm, 44; Reggie Rideout, 56; Derek Dufour, 58; Corey Rideout, 49; Michael Boone, 51 and Connor Thibeault, 52.
Fort Kent: Alex Chasse, 44; Logan Doak, 53; Garrett Albert, 49; Jeremy Violette, 50; Ali Prescott, 42 and Bryce Carter, 60.
