To the editor:
The members of the Caribou Historical Society wish to thank all of the supporters who have helped raise funds to build the barn.
Yes, thanks to many people and the Rotary Club, we are in the process of building the barn to house the Conestoga wagon and the many other pieces of farm equipment donated to us by the local farmers. We really appreciate your support.
However, it doesn’t stop here. We have 4.5 acres of land with a museum named the “Whittier Museum,” a garage where we have many items (more than 10,000), and a schoolhouse that is a replica of the early one-room schoolhouse complete with a bell. Also, two flower gardens, one an annual and the other a perennial, that have to be maintained. A nature trail, named the “Harriet Cousins Nature Trail” lined with equipment used in the path that leads to a sparkling stream with a bridge that is very colorful. It’s just a beautiful part of Caribou. So many people are not aware of the many items that we have catalogued with a complete computer system.
We are supported by donations, fund-raising programs, grants and membership dues of $10 per year. We are in the process of a membership drive, as we need much help in maintaining our present facilities and help in transferring items that we have to the new barn. We are in need of volunteers to become members to learn more about Caribou. Let’s all work to preserve the future and learn more about the past.
Our meetings are the third Tuesday of each month. Our plans are to have an interesting program or display at each meeting. We would be delighted to have you attend.
