ASHLAND – John Beaulier, 87, died September 28, 2010, at home, surrounded by family. Born at his parents’ home on April 9, 1923, he was the son of Henry and Rose (Theriault) Beaulieu of Ashland. One of twelve children, John worked on the family farm, went to school in a two-room schoolhouse, and was a self-educated man.
On January 13, 1943, he enlisted in the Armed Forces and served in the Third Army of the European Theater of World War II under the command of General George Patton. He was awarded the Army Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal for exemplary Conduct, Efficiency and Fidelity.
Returning to Maine after an honorable discharge, he married Joan Dube on August 20, 1946. John enjoyed his family, winters in Ocala, Rowe Lake, and animals of all kind.
After the war, John continued farming, then went to work for Putnam Brothers and Gulf Oil for nine years. He went to plumbing and heating school in Bangor and had additional training in Boston. In 1959, John established Beaulier Oil Company, a Mobil Oil distributorship. He delivered fuel products to customers in the northern Maine woods, Ashland, and surrounding communities. In 1983, he sold the business and began his retirement that included winters in Florida and summers in Maine. He loved the out of doors whether hunting or fishing and especially enjoyed time spent at the family camp. John was an active and respected member of the community. His involvement included being a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars LeBlanc-Jenkins Post 9699, American Legion, Ashland Rotary Club, and the Knights of Columbus Council 2889 of Ashland.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joan D. Beaulier.
He is survived by his six children, Ann and her husband, Paul Masterson, of Windham, NH, Jean and her husband, Leo Rafford, of Yarmouth, Rosemary and her husband, George Bourette, of East Boothbay, Rebecca and her husband, David Billings, of Brunswick, John and his wife, Susan, of Ashland, and James and his wife, Michelle, of Nashville Plantation; his grandchildren, Derek Monson and his wife, Jessica, Megan (Monson) and her husband, Richard Armstrong, Erica (Rafford) and her husband, Eric Noyes, Melissa and Adam Rafford, Bethany (Nadeau) and her husband, Michael Dame, Jessica (Nadeau) and her husband, Jonathan Miller, Liza (Billings) and her husband, Harry Kimball, Margo and Delia Billings, Jordan Beaulier, Allyx and Jarrett Beaulier; his step-grandchildren, Paul Masterson, Jr. and his wife, Victoria, Laura Masterson, Rachel and Alexander Gillis; his great-grandchildren, Jack and Paul Armstrong, Avery and Adrienne Monson, and Samuel Dame; his step-great-grandchild, Sophie Masterson. He is also survived by four sisters, Phoebe Jenkins of Ashland, Catherine Lee of South Portland, Shirley Bushey and Judy Carpentier of Ocala, Florida. He was predeceased by his sisters Jessie, Mandy, Mabel, and Pauline; his brothers Joseph, Bill, George, and Alfred.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Mark Catholic Church, Ashland. Committal service and interment were in the parish cemetery.
