    THOMAS, Mary Rose Hoffses, SIDNEY, NORTH BELGRADE & MAPLETON, September 30, 2010. There will be a church service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Sidney Baptist Church with a reception to follow. Interment at the South Side Cemetery in Mapleton at 1 p.m. on Sat., October 9.


 

    Mary Rose Hoffses Thomas died Thursday, September 30, 2010, at the Glenridge Nursing Care in Augusta. Daughter of John and Beatrice (Howes) Hoffses in Castle Hill, She was the fourth of eleven children.
    Mary Married Clifton A. Thomas on August 23, 1946. Mary and Clifton moved from Mapleton to North Belgrade in 1960, and resided there until 1980 when they moved to Sidney, where they currently reside.
    Mary was involved in many community activities, Cub Scouts, volunteering in schools and child wellness clinics. She was instrumental in the creation of the Belgrade school library. Mary spent many years cleaning camps and doing laundry for the various boys camps in North Belgrade. She also helped out at Webbers laundry mat in Oakland. She enjoyed Bingo, playing cards, knitting, quilting and crafts. She also participated in the Artistree Shows with her crafts. Mary was a member of the Sidney Lions Club, helping out with The Sidney Fair. Mary enjoyed helping Clifton at the Pony Pulling events where they travelled throughout Maine.
    Mary is survived by her husband of 64 years, Clifton A. Thomas of Sidney; sons, Terry and his wife, Beth of North Belgrade, Dan and his wife, Ramona of Lompoc, CA; daughters, Sharon and her husband, Dennis Tilton of Sidney, Patty and her husband, Wayne Bragg of Sidney, Cindy Thomas and fiancé, Jeffrey Campbell of Sidney, and Sandra and her husband, Ken Peckham of West Gardiner; brothers, Gene Hoffses of Mapleton, and Roger Hoffses of Presque Isle; sisters, Majorie Murchinson of Caribou, and Marion Guerrette of Presque Isle. Mary has 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that she enjoyed spending time with.
    Mary was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Bonita Rose Thomas; brothers, Llewellyn, John, Richard and Ralph Hoffses; sisters, Pauline Peterson and Maxine Perry.
    The family of Mary Thomas would like to thank the staff at Glenridge Nursing Care for their dedication and exceptional care. Caring for Mary and Clifton as if they were family.
    There will be a church service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, at the Sidney Baptist Church, with a reception to follow. Interment at the South Side Cemetery in Mapleton, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 9.
