LIMESTONE — In celebration of National Refuge Week, the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge will be holding special activities on Saturday, Oct. 16 and Sunday, Oct. 17 during an open house.
On both days, members of the Friends of the Aroostook Wildlife Refuge will be on location coordinating new events this year, which include a one-hour walk from approximately 1:30 -2:30 p.m. to Chapman Pond and a family scavenger hunt at 3 p.m., with little prizes available for the kids.
A tried and tested fan-favorite, the weapons storage area of the former Loring Air Force Base which housed the components for nuclear weapons will be open for either guided or self-guided tours.
The Nature Store in the visitors center will also be open on Saturday and Sunday.
Additional information can be obtained by calling the Visitors Center at 328-4634 or by calling FAWR President Betty Rinehart at 498-2173.
